Task analysis

What is it?

Task analysis involves creating scenarios that replicate real user journeys through your website.

We then ask a group of target audience users to attempt to complete the scenarios and observe the experience they have along the way. For example, we might ask them to purchase a product using the website's payment process, or find some specific information. Often, we'll ask each user to complete several scenarios.

Task analysis can be carried out using a working or live version of your, or by creating interactive wireframes of your proposed new design.

How long does it take?

We allow a minimum of 3 weeks to carry out task analysis. This includes agreeing the scenarios, recruiting users to test with, completing the analysis and reporting back to you.

What are the benefits?

Task analysis is a flexible user testing activity that can be carried out at all stages of your website project. It is useful at the early stages of redesign, when it informs you of problems users may be having with your existing site. It can also help during the initial design process, to ensure that you are on the right track.
